Co-Design as Collaborative Research

Theodore Zamenopoulos and Katerina Alexiou

February 25, 2020

Collaborative research practices are turning towards the arts as a means of engaging with different forms of knowledge. Co-design is becoming important in the face of complex issues, where no one person has the knowledge and skills to understand and solve them, and where a different approach is needed to empower people to participate and take control of their own life and environment.

Artists and scientists alike are focused on exploring the world through introspection, examination and experimentation. Collaboration provides multiple perspectives and methodologies leading to novel dialogue and expression. Combining scientific exploration with creative expression offers unique opportunities for forming new knowledge and creativity. To tackle the intractable challenges of our society requires a brand new language – a language of interdisciplinarity and interconnectedness. Relational Space provides a space for artistic expression and scholarly knowledge exchange with focus on evidence-based Art: Art presented in relation to empirically supported ideas to promote transformational social change. Relational Space encourages communication and collaboration among artists, scientists, policy-makers and the community-at-large.  Our vision sees a more just and sustainable world, inspired by art and transformed through truth.

The stories we tell matter.
